PILIBHIT: The district jail administration has launched an innovative programme for prison inmates with particular focus on their education and skill development. The programme is termed 'Unayan (upgradation)'. DM Pulkit Khare has taken the lead in the launch.
Teaching for classes V to X has been initiated in the jail campus with the active support of government teachers hailing from basic education and secondary education departments while the training in technical courses has been linked with ‘Kaushal Vikas Mission’.
“The prime objective is to instill in the minds of inmates that despite being lodged behind the bars, they are doing something useful," the DM said.
Jail superintendent, Shashi Kant Singh, said that as many as 50 inmates had begun attending educational classes while over two dozen inmates joined vocational training in computer application, mobile repairing and beautician courses.
